Японы Такашима арлаас 700 жилийн тэртээх Монголын эзэнт гүрний түрэмгийллийн үед хамаарах усан онгоцны сэг олсон талаар Японы өдөр тутмын “Асахи” сонинд нийтэлжээ. Тус сонинд нийтэлснээр Рюкю их сургууль, Мацуро хотын боловсролын зөвлөлийн архелогичид хамтран далайн ёроолд буй усан онгоцыг тусгай багажаар судалж, 1274-1281 онд Япон руу түрэмгийлж байхдаа Хубилай хааны ашиглаж байсан усан онгоц мөн болохыг тогтоожээ.

Хамгийн сүүлд олдсон дээрх усан онгоц нь 2011 онд Монголын байлдааны хөлөг олдсон газраас 1,7 км-ийн зайтай, 14 метрийн гүнд байрлаж байсан аж. 11 метр урттай уг хөлөг 2011 онд олдсон дурсгалаас илүү сайн хадгалагдаж үлджээ. Гэхдээ Хятадын шаазан эдлэлүүдээс тэс ондоо хийцтэй байгаа тул гарал үүслийг нь тогтооход төвөгтэй гэж шинжээчид үзэж байна. “Бид үүнийг Монголын усан онгоц гэж үзэж байгаа. Бүтэц, хэмжээг нарийвчлан тогтоож, гарал үүслийнх нь талаар нэмж судална. Маш сайтар хадгалагдаж үлдсэн тул шаазан эдлэл, зэвсэг тээвэрлэхэд онцгой гүүрэг гүйцэтгэдэг байсан гэж дүгнэлээ” хэмээн судалгааг удирдаж буй Рюкю их сургуулийн профессор Иошифуми Икеда ярьжээ.
Хубилай хаан 1281 онд Такашима арлын ойролцоо газар 4400 усан онгоц илгээж, Кюүшюү арлын хойд хэсэгт тулалдсан түүхтэй. Энэхүү тулааны талаар Японд”Хубилай хааны дайралтаас Камиказе хэмээх тэнгэрийн салхи хоёр удаа дэгдэж, хааны хөлөг онгоцуудыг эвдэлж, амь аврагдсан” хэмээх домог мэт яриа байдаг.
