ЮНЕСКО-гийн музейн хөтөлбөрийг хэрэгжүүлэгч ОУМЗ нь 1946 онд байгуулагдсан бөгөөд 2021 оны байдлаар 142 орны 49000 музейн мэргэжилтэнг эгнээндээ нэгтгээд байгаа аж. Дэлхийн олон улс оронд 32 салбар хороотой, ОУМЗ-ийн Монгол дахь үндэсний хорооны тэргүүнээр доктор, дэд профессор Д.Бумаа ажилладаг. 2021 онд 33 гишүүнтэй байсан Монгол дахь үндэсний хороо нийт 77 гишүүнтэй болж хүрээгээ тэлжээ.
